Alexandria is the pearl of Egypt, a real treasure for lovers of history, archeology and ancient architecture. You will see the Roman amphitheater, Pompey’s Column, an underground necropolis and a military fortress. Immerse yourself in the rich past of these places and find out how people lived here many centuries ago: who they prayed to, how they had fun, who they fought with and how they spent their days.

Program:
The Catacombs of Kom Ash-Shuqafa are a huge underground necropolis discovered relatively recently. You will learn under what circumstances this happened and I will tell you about the traditions of cremation in Ancient Egypt.
The Roman amphitheater – based on the preserved ancient columns, you will try to imagine what this place looked like several centuries ago. How people gathered there and watched performances.
Pompey’s Column is a grandiose structure about 30 meters high, made of pink Aswan granite. You will learn what temple it was part of and what interesting stories are associated with it.
The Library of Alexandria – you will examine the restored building of one of the largest libraries of the ancient world from the outside. I will share the story of its creation, destruction and revival.
The Fortress of Qaitbay is a fort founded at the end of the 15th century on the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria. You will hear what role it played in world military history.
